Alex Hertman is a partner at S. Horowitz & Co., where he leads the firm’s International Dispute Resolution Group. Alex specializes in complex corporate, banking and commercial litigation. Described by Chambers Global Guide as "a fantastic litigator of premier status who prepares cases thoroughly, argues well, and makes first-class appearances in court", Alex “gets good results with no shortcuts.” Alex has successfully represented corporate and individual clients in multimillion US dollar litigation, high-profile class actions, international arbitration, landmark appellate cases and petitions to the Israel Supreme Court. Alex’s diverse litigation practice includes a broad range of commercial and corporate disputes from breach of contract and unfair competition to hostile takeovers, shareholder battles and creditors’ rights. With a reputation of being “always in court,” he has represented domestic and foreign companies, most Israeli banks, major international financial institutions doing business in Israel, and national and international accounting and investment houses in complex commercial and finance litigation and has defended Israel’s major insurance companies in class actions and civil cases arising out of insurance coverage disputes, product liability, regulatory and enforcement issues and allegations of cartel activity. Alex’s most recent cases include:
- Representing seven of the largest Israeli banks in a claim regarding a $700 million loan given to purchase approximately 20% of the shares of Israel’s largest telecommunications company, and appointed by the court as receiver on those shares.
- Representing one of Israel’s largest banks in claims against the state regarding loans to companies that became insolvent.
- Defending the local Israeli affiliate of an international accounting firm in a professional negligence suit brought by a bank.
- Obtaining favorable judgments for a partner in a shareholders’ dispute regarding the control of Israel’s largest timeshare company and one of Greece’s largest casinos.
- Representing one of the largest international hotel chains in a series of multi-million dollar arbitrations involving management agreements.
- Representing a foreign bank in a multimillion dollar claim brought by a company liquidator.
- Representing an American-based global car manufacturer in a suit brought by an Israeli distributor.
- Appointed as an arbitrator on several of Israel’s largest commercial disputes.
Frequently invited to lecture on a variety of topics, Alex periodically teaches the course The Professional Ethics of Lawyers in the Faculties of Law at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (2000-2003) and the College of Management (20002-2004).
